Dialogue On Peace In Green Island 2009: Monument

Human Rights Plaque

On the Human Rights Monument erected by the Human Rights Education Foundation are the words of Po Yang:

“In those times

How many were the mothers

Who, for their sons
Imprisoned on this island

Wept through the long night?”

Unveiled on 10 December 1999, it was made into a new wall in 2007. It symbolizes the path of human rights taken by every victim.

Annual events in Green Island Human Rights Memorial Park

“Dialogue On Peace In Green Island” is the annual events organized by National Taitung Living Art Center in Green Island. In 2009, the activities include : a project of human rights historical sites investigating and oral history interview, series exhibitions, an international conference of peace museums, and Human Rights Arts Festival.

In the project of investigating, we plans to interview at least 15 victims of the 1950s and their families, 5 Green Island local residents, but also to collect relevant cultural relics. The interview will be made into a documentary.

Series Exhibitions are included :”Additional List of Victims Exhibition”held at the Human Rights Monument, "World Peace Museum Exhibition," and “Dialogue On Peace: Selected poetry and painting Exhibition”held at Oasis Villa.

International Conference of Museums for Peace including two youth camps for human rights promotion activities, and an international conferences will be held in Taipei and Green Island. Peace Science experts and scholars from Japan, Okinawa, South Korea will dialogue with Taiwanese.

"Dialogue On Peace" as its theme, Human Rights Arts Festival will have series of exhibitions, as well as "Peace Song Concert" and "Human Rights Cinema" will be held at summer starry nights in Green Island Human Rights Memorial Park.
